How to Increase Traffic

December 20, 2008

The first thing I want to talk about is keywords. So many people get this fundamental part of the traffic building process wrong and wonder why they are only getting a handful of visitors to their websites. Your web pages have to be optimized for the correct keywords in order to get constant flow of traffic to your websites.

Keywords refer to words or phrases that someone may type in the search engines to find your website. This is why it is so important that you chose the right keywords to optimize your websites for.

How do you choose the right keywords?

This is the most important part of the optimization process and should be done right. If you want to optimize your websites for keywords that will bring you a ton of visitors then you must utilize keywords tools. These are tools that use the search engines databases to reveal what are some of the keywords that people have been searching for in the past.

So for example if you want to build a golf website then you would type in the word ‘golf’ in one of these keyword tools.

An example of a result you would get would be:

Golf clubs

How to play golf

How to improve

The best way to improve golf swing

And hundreds of others

Now you would have to decide which specific golf related area you want to optimize your website for. It would not be a good idea to try and optimize your website for the word golf because there would be billions of other website that are optimized for that word. That means the chances of you getting a ton of free traffic to your website would be very negligible. On the other hand you would stand a better chance if you optimize you website for the term “the best way to improve golf swing”.

When you chose you keyword phrases, you should put them in your webpage title, description and meta keywords. The content on your website should also contain your keywords at least once every one hundred words.

Optimizing your web pages for the right keywords will bring not just free traffic but free targeted traffic. This method is neglected by so many web masters but if you put it into practice then you are one step ahead of the game.
